MEREDITH BRISK will turn 60 during election week in Queensland and is hoping that her birthday will not be the only thing she will be celebrating. A first time political candidate, she has a wealth of life experience behind her and is a passionate advocate for social justice and cannabis law reform. Having spent 22 years as a sworn police officer in Queensland, she saw countless hours of scarce police resources go into futile search warrants, with no positive outcome for the community. “I have also seen firsthand how these laws are the gateway to a life of crime for some; and how much harm they cause in the community. I am in this election to win and make a difference”. Vibrant, with a zest for life and wanting to make a real impact, Meredith is campaigning for a healthier environment, economy and population, and for building the foundations for a sustainable and renewable future. “Cannabis can do all three. I call it the ‘Hope Plant’ not the ‘Dope Plant’” she says. “We just have to loosen the chains”. Fun loving Meredith has a serious side. She is passionate about the positive changes that can come from legalising cannabis and sees removing the red-tape from the hemp industry, with the prosperity and jobs that would follow, as a good start to a better future for all Queenslanders. Meredith says the Legalise Cannabis Queensland Party is a progressive and community orientated party. “We know we will never form government, but we can be a voice for the people who support cannabis law reform. Often the crossbench can be a position of power for minor parties and this is what the Party is aiming for”. There are many issues of concern for Meredith that she will address if elected. Aside from cannabis issues, she cites cleaning up the M1, tackling youth crime, and landlord and tenant issues as just some of them. “The propaganda machine will, no doubt, continue to peddle the stigma machine up until the Election, but fortunately the people are doing their own research on this one and coming up with the truth. Cannabis has been demonised for too long”. |
