The next Federal Election is approaching, much faster than many of us would like. Australians must go to the polls prior to 17 May, 2025 (and we haven’t even completed the Queensland State Election yet)! With record high enrolment, 97.9% of all eligible Australians were enrolled to vote as at 30 June 2024, the levels of political engagement are higher than ever, especially among the indigenous and youth sectors of the community.
So it is with great pleasure that we introduce Legalise Cannabis Party’s Senate Candidate for Queensland, Belinda Jones. “As I’ve gone through life I’ve always been interested in politics and as I’ve grown older, I’ve become acutely aware of how political decisions have impacted my life. Over the last decade, I have felt a powerful need to leave a better legacy for my children and grandchildren, to become more involved in politics and fight passionately for the causes I believe in”.
“Medicinal cannabis has been incredibly effective for me personally and I’m
so glad that we’ve achieved this, but we must go further and legalise”.
Belinda, a freelance journalist, has a large online following due to her activism and investigations through independent media. She has never been afraid to ask the hard questions, or to hold politicians to account. “I'm very proud to represent the Legalise Cannabis Party as your senate candidate for Queensland at the next federal election. LCP is a progressive left, non-obstructionist party that understands enduring change is made in small steps”.
As a mature age student, Belinda completed a Bachelor of Education, then taught for many years. She’s also done just about everything else, from driving buses to working on a construction site and in retail. Based on the Gold Coast, Belinda is a medicinal cannabis user and strongly supports legalising and cannabis production. Belinda also believes that hemp is the most under-used crop in Australia, with the potential to replace water-hungry cotton.
On X-Twitter, where Belinda has nearly sixty thousand followers, she posted that, “The Legalise Cannabis Party is a commonsense progressive party that wants to work collaboratively with government to create positive change:
Pro legalising cannabis
Pro choice
Pro voluntary assisted dying
Pro renewables and climate action
Pro raising the rate”.
In the last Federal Election in 2022, the Legalise Cannabis Party came within a whisker of dethroning One Nation’s Pauline Hanson from the Senate and the Party has every confidence in Belinda winning a senate seat in 2025 for cannabis law reform!
